The Arousor continues Empirical Labs’ 25 year tradition of offering the world’s most popular classic knee compressor, featured on more tracks than any other.

For many years, processing speed, sample rates and copy protection were limiting. Things have changed. Digital Technology can now come very close to having all the wonderful non-linearity and “warts” of the best analog gear. We say “close” because most of Empirical Labs’ analog gear will pass 150KHz easily, and that is something that is impossible with current digital technology. But hey, who hears above 20KHz? But it is difficult getting everything right up to that 20KHz, especially at sample rates of 48KHz and below.

As this plugin does all kinds of non-linear stuff, we had to employ a variety of techniques to minimize common digital artifacts found in almost all digital compressors/limiters etc. Unfortunately, these techniques are costly as far as processing, and one has to streamline certain DSP processes for less CPU load without sacrificing any audio quality. Ironically, sometimes stuff that is hard in Analog is easy in Digital, and sometimes stuff that is hard (or impossible) in Digital is easy in Analog.

The first implementation of this plugin is “skeuomorphic”, i.e tries to imitate the look and feel of real world stuff. In this case, it is the look and feel of Empirical Labs hardware. But in Digital, a whole universe opens up with interfaces. Suddenly things you could never do in the hardware world becomes simple. It’s a wonderland.

The best part of getting this plugin now, is that more features are coming, including new processing and interface changes, but… the plugin will be backwards compatible. Buy now and get these updates for free until 2020!

Lives up to the hype, it's pretty darn wonderful. Sound quality is insanely good. Super easy in use and yet very powerful.

Like the Distressor, it has remarkable variations of gorgeous sounding compression.

If you're looking for a single go-to compressor that will sound phenomenal then the Arouser most definitely deserves attention.

I find myself reaching for just Arouser instead of using three different plugins to do the same.

I like the sound.  I like how easy I can dial in what I need.

I mainly use Arouser on strings, drums, guitars  for film scoring and pop mixing projects.

This compressor is very versatile. The only thing I wish is to be able to switch off saturation completely. Excellent work, Empirical Labs!

This is easily one of my top 3 favorite plugins. With several hundred in my arsenal, that's saying something.

5 of 5 Arousor - Dream come true? July 14, 2020
Reviewer: Filip Kłobukowski from Gdynia, Pomorskie Poland
I've heard and seen sooo many people use the Distressor and since I can't afford it as a hardware I've been searching for a digital "version". I have many compressors in my arsenal, however I really love the explosiveness I get from the Arousor. Believe me, I've compared many with the same settings and the character of an Arousor really shines. Can you get close with other compressors? Quite, however mixing is always about getting that extra 1-2% If you can, get it, you won't regret :)
